Voter Registration

Register to vote or update your information to ensure you can participate in all elections.

Registration Deadlines:

  • In person: By 5 PM on the Tuesday before election day

  • By mail: Postmarked by the Tuesday before election day

  • Online: By 11:59 PM on the Tuesday before election day

What You Need:

  • Valid Connecticut driver's license or ID card

  • Social Security number

  • Current address in Burlington

Absentee Ballots

Vote by absentee ballot if you cannot vote in person on election day

Who Can Vote Absentee:

  • Persons with illness or physical disability

  • Active military service

  • Absence from town during election hours

  • Religious beliefs prohibit secular activity

  • Election day duty as a poll worker

What You Need:

  • Application deadline: Day before election by 5 PM

  • Ballot return: By 8 PM on election day

 FAQs

  • You need to bring a valid photo ID. Acceptable forms include driver's license, state ID card, passport, or military ID. If you don't have photo ID, you can sign an affidavit and provide alternative identification.

  • Voters can check their registration status at: CT.gov/lookup.

  • To vote in a Connecticut general, local town or primary election, all voters must register in their town of residence. 

    REGISTER BY MAIL: Burlington residents can register by mail by printing a Voter Registration Form, filling it out, and mailing it to the Burlington Town Clerk’s office.

    ONLINE VOTER REGISTRATION: You can register online if you have a Connecticut driver’s license or DMV-issued non-driver ID.  CT.gov/Register-Online-to-Vote

  • Yes! Connecticut has open primaries for unaffiliated voters. You can choose which party's primary to vote in, but you cannot vote in both parties' primaries on the same day.

  • Ask a poll worker for help immediately. You may be able to get a new ballot. Do not try to correct mistakes yourself as this could invalidate your vote.

  • The Secretary of State's website has sample ballots available before each election. You can also contact the Town Clerk's office for information about local races and ballot questions.

  • Voters are encouraged to use the secure ballot drop box outside the Town Hall entrance to return their absentee ballot by Election Day. If you have any further questions concerning absentee voting, contact the Town Clerk at (860) 673-6789 x2 or ugalde.m@burlingtonct.us.

  • EDR permits anyone to register and vote in person on Election Day at Burlington Town Hall, from 6 am to 8 pm.  You will need to provide proof of identity and residency.
